CLIFFORD JOHNSON Obituary
19, 2016, at the Manor in Morrisville, Vt. Cliff had been in declining health for several years due to Parkinson's related illness. His beloved wife of 49 years, Delores S. "Dee" Johnson, predeceased him in 2007. 7, 1936, to Edith and Clifford A. Johnson. in civil engineering in 1965. Cliff had a long career in professional engineering in his native New Jersey, starting in 1962 at Elson T. Cliff also served as the municipal engineer for Madison Borough from 1977 to 1983, and the borough of New Providence from 1980 to 1987. Cliff and Dee first purchased a home in Elmore, Vt., in 1986, later settling in Stowe in 1996, after they sold their Madison home. They loved the mountains, the many friends they had made, and the many activities Stowe had to offer. Not yet ready to retire in 1996, Cliff originally started out as a consulting engineer from home, but was later recruited by the Stowe Select Board to become the director of Public Works. Cliff oversaw the operation of the Highway, Water and Sewer and Parks Department. He enjoyed his interactions with the Select Board, co workers, department heads and residents. He loved his involvement in numerous capital projects, and represented Stowe at the Lamoille Planning Commission among many other activities. Cliff was very involved, and very passionate about his professional, and community service as well as the Episcopal Church. He never said no! He served on numerous local and national boards, such as the American Council of Engineering Companies( ACEC), where he was a past vice president, The Consulting Engineers Council of New Jersey (past president), and the Madison Rotary Club, where was also a past president and Paul Harris Fellow. He enjoyed skiing until that became too difficult. He particularly loved the Arts, and was a long time supporter of the Vermont Mozart Festival, and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. He also loved theatre and attended many plays and musicals. He especially enjoyed his granddaughter's annual ballet performance! Cliff is survived by his children, Sara Beth of Morrisville, Vt.; Peter of Stowe, Vt., and Kathryn (Kate) Baker of Granby, Conn.; grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle and Jack Johnson of Morrisville; Willa and Griffin Johnson of Morrisville, and Frederic and Cameron Baker of Granby, Conn.; a brother, George W. also survive him, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The Johnson family would like to thank Dr. David Bisbee, the caregivers and staff at Copley Woodlands, The Manor, and Lamoille Home Health and Hospice for the compassionate care Cliff received during his illness. A celebration of Cliff's life will take place Saturday, Jan. at Grace Episcopal Church, Madison, with a reception to follow. His ashes will be interred at Grace Memorial Garden beside his late wife.
